Setup network and android My Home Application to remote control relays

1) How to proceed

  • Connect relays to your local network
  • Register a public DNS
  • Setup port forwarding for each relay
  • Setup My Home application

 2) Connect relays to your internal network

All these relays work on the same basis. When you first switch on the relays or after a reset the relay is setup as an access point and brodcast its SSID. You will have to setup the relay as a wifi client that will be able to connect to your local network.

Use the manual of the application delivered with your device to setup the local wifi connection of your device. Choose the local network and set the correct wifi key.

Following this setup verify that your device has joined your local network by looking at the box or router interface.

I would recommend to setup a static IP address for each device to facilitate the port forwarding configuration.

3) Register Public DNS

This DNS is the address where we can have acces to your local network from the internet.

Some of your internet provider may provide you with this public DNS like Free internet provider in France that provide an DNS with your freebox V6 plan, where xxx is whatever you want.

If you don’t have this service you can use no-ip or Dyndns services for exemple.

Certain opérateur vous la fournisse avec votre abonnement (exemple free avec freebox V6 qui permet d’enregistrer sa propre DNS avec le nom, c’est vous qui faite le choix du xxxx).

 4) Setup the port forwarding

Prévious step allow you to access your personnal network from the internet. This new step will add the access to all your devices in your local network using the port forwarding feature of your router or box.

You have to choose a port number for each of your device. Each of the number ports you choose will be affected to one of your devices. You have to set a port to the local address of your devices (the address you get step 2) and the port to the real port that your device is listening to, 80 for the maginon plug but te one you setup for the Lonhand relay.

Now your network is setup, the last thing is to setup the My Home application itself.

 5) Setup My Home application

5.1 Run the application

On first application launch the screen of the application looks like the picture below.

There is no relays displayed

Click on the setup buttton (three dots on the rigth vcorner) and Add device

Ypu have to setup all the relay informations.:

IP Address: Set your public DNS or public IP address

IP Port:  set the public port (the port forwarding will do the translation to the listining port)

Password:  set the password

Icon Type: Choose one of the icon to display

Protocol Type: Choose the protocol Maginon for Maginon plug or Lonhand for the wifi relay

Save .

VoThe main scrfeen display all the devices that you stetup

If you made a mistake, click on EDIT MODE, the title bar background change to red color,

If you select one of the devices you enter in the editing mode for this device

Vous pouvez alors modifier et sauvegarder la nouvelle configuration ou effacer l’appareil en cours d’édition.

To change device state just ckick on the device icon when the title bar backgroud is black. This will act as the command to switch on and off your device.

If you want to refresh power consumption, kust click on the name of the device tou want to refresh.

That’s it, really simple isn’t it?

Feel free to give me feedback on errors you have or any improvement you need.

  1. Hi, great job! I’m using it for my smartplug (Maginon).
A suggestion for a possible improvement would be widgets, so you can put your plug on the homescreen and toggle it there.
Another suggestion is to maybe opensource it, so others can help implement features 🙂
    Thanks again for your work
